What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture (and moxibustion) is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This systematic medicine aims to restore and maintain health by the insertion of fines needles into specific points on the body.

Acupuncture is an ancient form of healing that developed over several thousands of years, mostly in China, but also in Japan, Korea and other parts of the Far East countries.

Many people come for acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or conditions. In the West, it is associated with pain relief and addiction problems, although most people are also aware that it is used as a form of anaesthetic in China. In fact, there are few health problems that acupuncture has bot been used to treat. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has complied a list of diseases and conditions that acupuncture treatment is appropriate.

Good health is not only just free from pain or disease. Traditional acupuncture works to maintain the body’s equilibrium by focusing on all aspects of wellbeing: physical, mental and emotional.

Testimonial for Tamworth Acupuncture Practitioner Rebecca Richards

“I began acupuncture with Rebecca having tried to become pregnant. Acupuncture was recommended to me as a suggestion to help with conception, so I booked an appointment with Rebecca, & at our first session she put me at ease straight away even though I have a fear of needles! I followed Rebecca’s advice & made small alterations to my diet to compliment the treatment & within three months we discovered that we were expecting a baby. We were over the moon. I continued to see Rebecca for treatment throughout my pregnancy to relieve hayfever & sciatica. Towards the end of my pregnancy Rebecca did treatments to prepare my body for labour & my husband came along so Rebecca could show him pressure points which would be useful for during labour. I have continued to see Rebecca for treatments to help my body recover from the birth of our daughter & I have recommended Rebecca to friends & family & would not hesitate to continue to do so in the future”.    Rachel Cannon
